IN THE NEWS: Hospice Firm Settles Whistleblowers’ Suit for $2.4 Million

July 8, 2017 - In the face of charges from two Atlanta employees that it had fraudulently billed taxpayers after giving kickbacks to referring physicians, Hospice company, Compassionate Care, will pay $2.4 million to settle the case. The suit alleged a scheme to falsely bill Medicare and Medicaid for patients who did not meet Hospice criteria but were still referred by their doctors who received a kickback for the referral. This is one of several whistleblower cases in recent years involving similar schemes by Hospice companies.
